Interests
I’m interested in just a few things. OK. So, basically, everything. Below are a few of my interests, in no particular order.
Problem Solving
I love to solve problems, especially if I have to read a few books, learn a few new things, and write a few hundred lines of code. I guess I just like to know things, or at least, be able to find the answer.
Books
This is why I’m interested in so many different (and yet strangely similar) topics: I read as much as I can. Check out my current reading list.
Writing
I also like to write. Recently, I’ve been writing more. I’d like to think that I’m getting better at it. I’ve had seveal people suggest that I write a book. Some are impressed with all the things I’m interested in and would like to have it commited to paper. I guess they’d like me to spread my sense of wonder to others. Others are moved by my writing and romatic view of people and situations. They want me to write a romance novel. Maybe I’ll write a book. Science and romance. What do you think?
Computers
There is certainly something to be said for instant gratification and answering questions. That’s what writing code does for me. I tend to hate doing anything over and over again ... so I’ll write something so I don’t have to. Games rule. Weapon of choice Python.
Nightlife
I caught the nightlife bug in London. Now that I’m working in DC I have both the money and opportunity to sample a lot of the various bars, clubs, bands, plays, and such that DC has to offer. Of course, meeting lots of interesting people is fun too. So, on Friday and Saturday nights (often on weeknights too), you’ll find me drinking a few pints with friends or dancing to a wide variety of music.
Hopeless Optimism
I believe in humanity. And I have faith in your role. What do you believe in?
Romanticism
Not that sappy gushy drivel ... the Lord Jim by Joseph Conrad kind. Okay, so maybe just a little sappiness, but never drivel.
Travel
Oh my London rules, the pubs, the clubs, the people. Munich ain’t bad either (where else can you get a beer that’s 17% and tastes great with a dumpling and leg of lamb). Montana: the sky is really blue. Texas: it’s not the hat’s but the attitude. Upstate New York: the largest nature park in the world. New York, New York: my brother goes to Pace and the Carnegie Deli owns my soul. Rome has a ton of people, awesome food, and way too much stuff to see.
