Paintings by Tarah
My friend Tarah Rowse stopped by for a visit recently. Well, she’s currently working for the Peace Corps in Belize, so it’s not as easy as just stopping by. But she was in the States for a while and down in the DC area to deal with some unpleasant business. But I was glad to get some time to hang out with a cool Greenwichian. We had a good time sampling beer from all over the world at the Brickskeller. Except Belikin from Belize, which is not on the menu. (I recently got a package from Tarah: one bottle each of Belikin lager and stout.) While Tarah was here she showed me the logo at right she designed for the Peace Corps project she works on. Its symbology is rather appropriate when one considers that Tarah teaches about nature conservation and likes frogs.
Tarah is also a painter; something I didn’t know until we were looking at some of the other images on her laptop. The painting at left is my favorite. It had a spooky feeling to it and a sense of energy that belies the calm setting.
Since Tarah’s been spending a lot of time in South America, you’d expect her to do some reproductions of local art, like the ones below. I rather enjoy the flat nature of the paintings. And the colors of course.
Tarah also did some pretty cool paintings of the local feathered friends. A pair of scarlet macaws chatter in a tree at left. At right, a woodpecker stops to smell the flowers.
An astute reader writes that the painting Tarah did of her family’s farm is also quite good, “It blows me away.” You can see the painting on the Manx Station Farm homepage.
